David Millar's Fizik shoes up for grabs

First pair of unique shoes to mark Millar's final pro season currently being auctioned off for charity

David Millar is marking his 18th and final season as a professional cyclist by wearing unique and custom Fizik shoes in every race he competes it throughout the year. And the first pair are now being sold through an online auction, but you'll have to be quick, there's less than a day remaining. The auction closes 09 March 08:00 PM GMT.

The project dubbed ‘An Eloquence Of Movement' is a collaboration between Millar and his sponsor Fizik to celebrate each race with a special pair of shoes. Each will feature bespoke designs, David's name and the date of the race. The shoes will be auctioned off throughout the year, with proceeds going to  Small Steps Project charity, which aims to help underprivileged children and adults who survive by scouring rubbish dumps.

The first shoes in this project, created for the Challenge Majorca race last month, are currently being auctioned off with, at the time of writing, just 23 hours remaining. The current highest bid is £250, with 22 bids. We expect that to go up a fair bit before the deadline.

Each shoe design, hand made in Italy, is specific to the race and its region to “tell the emotional story of David’s involvement at this race – in 2014 and over the past two decades.” Millar has completed his first race of the season, the Challenge Majorca earlier this month , and wore the shoes pictured in this article.

The other shoe designs will be revealed throughout the season and all the shoes in the series will be sold at an auction in aid of the Small Steps Project at a special end-of-season event. You can keep track of the project at the special website, www.fizik.it/an_eloquence_of_movement/

Small Steps Project is a humanitarian organisation supporting children who survive by scavenging on the world’s rubbish dumps. The UK-registered charity is dedicated to helping children around the world – and their families – who live on landfill sites and other rubbish dumps. It raises awareness of the unacceptable hardships these people face, and provides practical aid and programs to help them break out of their plight, into education and employment.

David worked on the road.cc tech team from 2012-2020. Previously he was editor of Bikemagic.com and before that staff writer at RCUK. He's a seasoned cyclist of all disciplines, from road to mountain biking, touring to cyclo-cross, he only wishes he had time to ride them all. He's mildly competitive, though he'll never admit it, and is a frequent road racer but is too lazy to do really well. He currently resides in the Cotswolds, and you can now find him over on his own YouTube channel David Arthur - Just Ride Bikes
