Sir Bradley Wiggins in Team Sky line-up for Tour of Flanders

Tour de France winner replaces the injured Ian Stannard for Sunday's Classic...

Team Sky have called in Sir Bradley Wiggins to their Tour of Flanders line-up as they look to bounce back from a bruising outing in last Sunday’s Belgian Classic Gent-Wevelgem.

Sir Brad has been drafted in to replace Ian Stannard, who showed great early-season form - taking the Classic Omloop Het Nieuwsblad title before fracturing a vertebrae in Gent-Wevelgem at the weekend.

Wiggins last rode the Tour of Flanders for the, now defunct, team Crédit Agricole in 2005. Belgian Tom Boonen won the race that year.

This years route will not favour the sprinter though, as organisers have taken out swathes of flat road to motivate riders who fancy a breakaway.

Joining Wiggins on the 259km route will be fellow Brit Geraint Thomas, whose charge on the Paris-Nice podium last month ended in disappointment as he crashed out on the penultimate stage.

But Thomas has found the podium this season at E3 Harelbeke. The Welshman's Norwegian teammate Edvald Boasson Hagen, who joins the team for the Belgian race, also found the podium - joining Stannard on stage at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad.

Also racing on the puncheur-friendly course are old-hands Bernhard Eisel, Christian Knees and Gabriel Rasch.

Completing the line-up for Sunday's race are Salvatore Puccio and Luke Rowe.
