Dave Gorman embarks on new leg of 'cycling' tour… without his bike

Gorman cycled all points north, south, east and west

Comedian Dave Gorman is preparing for a newl leg of his epic Sit Down, Pedal, Pedal, Stop and Stand Up tour that has seen him cycle 1,500 across the UK, doing a gig every night,  but in typically Gormanesque fashion, this leg will be bicycle-free.

The comic set out to cycle between the four corners of the British mainland, from south to east to west to north. He ticked off Lizard Point, Lowestoft Ness, Ardnamurchan Point and Dunnet Head along the way and the gigs sold out, with venues ranging from a 2,000- seater in Bristol to the 32 people who could fit into the Glenfinnan railway station dining car.

He said: "The show wasn’t about the journey, it was an entirely separate thing.

"Where the two were connected was purely in matters geographical.

"I obviously had to stick to a particular route to complete the cycling challenge and a show had to be arranged every night somewhere along that route.

"It meant I played some unconventional venues.

"Inevitably there were parts of the country I couldn't get to because they simply weren't on the route, so I’m going to take the same show on the road again, only without the cycling element. That frees me up to play pretty much anywhere, instead of having to be between 30 and 90 miles up the road every day.

"Even though I won’t be cycling, I’ve kept the title the same to avoid any confusion about whether it’s a different show or not.

"It’s the same show, I just won't be saddle sore and blistered while I’m performing it!"

The 38-year-old author and stand-up comedian first found national acclaim with his Are You Dave Gorman? show, when he traced others with the same name.

Today he’s best known for his BBC2 show Genius, which started life on Radio 4.

I saw him whilst he was doing the cycling bit - in fact, a fellow blogger called Trio helped him on his journey from Manchester outwards 1

Was a great show - very very funny.
