As the snows thawed during January, so too did road.cc readers’ hankerings for summer, according to the results of the poll we ran throughout the month. Instead, safer roads for cyclists was top of your New Year’s wish list, with 38% - nearly two in five – of you saying that was what you wanted during 2010.
Approaching the middle of the month, flurries of snow were accompanied by a flurry of votes for better weather, which at one point briefly pushed safer roads into second place, but by the month’s end, votes for summer lagged behind at 32% of the total.
As thoughts of the summer receded, so too did ones of the Tour de France, with only 16% saying what you most wanted was the dream double – for many British cycling fans, anyway - of Bradley Wiggins winning the Tour de France and Mark Cavendish the green points jersey in July’s race.
That option finished just ahead of the fourth choice, which was to buy that Ti/steel/carbon/custom bike that you’ve always wanted, which got 14% of the vote.
That could mean one of three things – the recession is lasting longer than the government is telling us, you’re already happy with the wheels you’ve got, or you’re keeping your cards close to your chest and are being ultra-cautious lest the other half somehow discovers what’s top of your shopping list. Don’t worry, your secret’s safe with us!
Getting on for 500 of you voted in that poll, and we look forward to your vote on our next one, which is already up on the site and asks what, if anything, irritates you most about your fellow cyclists.
You forgot ignoring half the race to show awkward interviews with the riders' Proud Parents™ instead.
Obviously it means 'springing out of the bunch' on a critical sector. Or maybe it's referring to the time of year.
