Live stream: Sarah Storey Hour Record attempt

Current record stands at 46.065km

Dame Sarah Storey is attempting to break the women’s UCI Hour Record in London today as part of the Revolution series. The live broadcast of her effort begins at 2.50pm GMT and can be seen below.

Storey is the first woman to attempt the record since the UCI changed its rules last year to accommodate modern track bikes and equipment. The current record of 46.065km was set 12 years ago by Leontien Zijlaard-van Moorsel of the Netherlands.

Earlier this week, Storey told the BBC that the psychological challenge is likely to become even greater than the physical one ‘once it starts to bite’.

"I've physically got the capability to beat the record but if I get off the track and I haven't done it, it won't be because I have an excuse in the back pocket. It'll be because it's an incredibly difficult record – but it's a world record; it's supposed to be hard."

Last week, we took an in-depth look at the Ridley Arena bike on which Storey will be attempting the record and you can also hear her talking about her preparation here.

"It's never something I intended to do,” she says. “It seems a crazy thing to do, but it's a physical challenge and I've spent the last 24 years of my international career taking on physical challenges.”

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.
