Bike found at spot from where it had been stolen – two years later

More recent owner seemingly phlegmatic about it being reclaimed

A US man has had his stolen bike returned to him after it resurfaced at the same spot from where it had been taken two years earlier.

The Kitsap Sun reports that the 1985 Cannondale was spotted at a bike rack at the Kitsap Credit Union in downtown Bremerton in Washington State on Tuesday, the owner having reported the bike stolen from the exact same spot back in 2014.

Chief Steve Strachan from Bremerton police said a friend of the bike's owner had noticed the ‘distinct’ bike’s reappearance and reported it. Confident that the person was correct, police cut the lock and returned it.

An officer left his business card at the bike rack and later received a call from a man who was presumably somewhat taken aback to discover his bike had gone and that the police were responsible. This man said he had bought the bike at a thrift store which had subsequently closed.

Police told the man that the bike had been stolen and that they had returned it to the rightful owner. According to the Kitsap Sun, “Strachan said the man understood.”
