Plenty still to come in National Bike Week

There are still hundreds of National Bike Week events to attend around the UK before the week officially closes on Sunday 27 June.

Across the country there are more than 1,860 events planned involving an estimated 46,000 participants.

Sponsored by EDF Energy, the point of Bike Week is to challenge everyone in the UK to rethink everyday journeys and switch to cycling as the most convenient way to get around.

Events held so far have included naked bike rides, bike breakfasts, drop-in workshop sessions, festivals, picnics and even bike limbo, whatever that is.

Here’s a small selection of some of the remaining events:

• On Friday 25 June, a family-friendly charity ride through quiet country lanes around Reading.
• On Saturday 26 June, a ‘refresher ride’ in Hackney, east London, to help rusty cyclists build up their confidence
• On Saturday 26 June, a Bath Critical Mass family-friendly ride around the centre of Bath where riders are encouraged to wear fancy dress. 
• On Saturday 26 June, the launch of a bike train service between the centre of Brighton and the Sussex University campus a few miles out of town.
• On Sunday 27 June, an off-road ride from Sheffield to Chesterfield with a refuelling and raffle stop in the Rother Valley Country Park.
• On Sunday 27 June, a family ride leaving Polwarth Church in Edinburgh, stopping for a picnic at Colinton and then returning along the canal towpath.
