WiggleCRC said to be refusing suppliers’ currency related price increases

WiggleCRC was formed earlier this year following merger between Wiggle and Chain Reaction Cycles

Cycling Industry News reports that WiggleCRC is refusing currency related price increases from its suppliers. While this is likely to prove good news for consumers for the moment, a number of distributors who work with the firm have said that they will struggle to absorb the costs.

A number of distributors have been forced to make currency-related price hikes following Brexit. However, WiggleCRC, which was created following a merger between Wiggle and Chain Reaction Cycles earlier this year, is apparently resisting.

Just two of ten distributors spoken to had not yet encountered such a problem when supplying the firm. One said: “They’re refusing rises that we’ve been forced to make in order to retain an already difficult to work with margin.”

Another added: “I feel for the smaller supplier as nobody makes huge margins these days. What do you do when costs go up 20 per cent in a year and an account generating 80 per cent of your business tells you where to go with passing costs on. Somehow you’ll have to pay for that container on the water.”

A third, who has decided to stop dealing with WiggleCRC, said suppliers would have to decide “whether they need turnover or margin.”

WiggleCRC last week announced that it is to move 300 jobs from Northern Ireland to England in a bid to speed up delivery times. The firm says it remains committed to Northern Ireland but cites later order cut-off dates and the importance of rapid delivery to customers for the move.

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.

This is PR BS and why ?

Because suppliers have to make their profit margins and prices have to go up, it is simple economics ... Remeber this is pre xmas and I would make a note of any new tech etc that comes in after Xmas.

300 redundancies sounds a bit like Planet X. Then why no outcry  ?

Did you not see the response when the NI CRC redundancies were announced both here and on the BBC? Just because you missed it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

No I didn't miss it . But everyone here on the Road CC forum seems to be venting their venom towards Planet X when WiggleCRC is just as bad regarding this business model. Ribble is now owned by venture capitalists so watch this space too !

Capitalism is not about providing jobs, it's about making money !

I knew there was a reason why I stopped using Wiggle.  Take over competitors, shut them down and screw over suppliers.

You're faulting a retailer for trying to get the best prices for its customers?

It's like these people don't understand how a business is supposed to work.

Which type of business are you referring to, or is there just one type of business and they all work the same?

I think there already tools for this if you Google. I write a script for something I am willing to wait for a sale on - I don't need it often enough to make it generic. I got a massive discount on a Salewa tent just recently.

We need a tracker for euro sites. They deliver to the UK reasonably cheap, like DPD for £7 as one example.

Keeping tabs on their ever changing prices (I think a lot of them use spiders to crawl around checking each other's prices) is hard work, and sometimes the price drops pretty low suddenly, for no apparently sound reason. Meaning you can grab a bargain.

GIve you an example, I was watching the indoor trainer pre-order prices the past couple of weeks, All around £699 to £639 in UK and Euro sites (Ger/Fra/Ned etc). No change, until a couple of days ago, one Euro store, in its UK version, changed to £564. Still 799EU in it's normal EU version though. Price starting to crawl back up again slowly.

Anyway, there's no site that I know that lets you keep tabs on a product you want and give you updates from euro stores. That would be super handy. Coders, get at it smiley
