The Tour of Cambridgeshire is to launch a ‘Team Chrono’ event in 2017. The four-rider team time trial will be held after the individual race against the clock over the same 26.55km route on Saturday June 3.
The Team Chrono has 100 start places available for teams competing in four classifications:
- Male
- Female
- Mixed
- Corporate
For the first year at least, competitors will have to use standard road bikes with standard road helmets.
Race Director Rowland Summerlin explained: “The importance of this, in year one of this new event, is to assure safety and to level the playing field across the classifications.”
Tom Caldwell, CEO of organisers Golazo Cycling Limited, said: “We see this new event at the Tour of Cambridgeshire as the first step towards the UK having an event to exceed the Duo Normand, the famous late season two up time trial in France which many British riders go over for. A key difference for the Tour of Cambridgeshire Team Chrono, besides the obvious number of riders in each team, is that in Cambridgeshire the roads will be closed.”
The price per team is £120 and spots can now be reserved via the Tour of Cambridgeshire website
Teams will be able to warm up together in the warm up area next to the time trial start ramp where 60 turbo trainers will be provided by the organisers and Rutland Cycling, who are retail partners of the event. Teams will set off at one minute intervals.
Taking place over the weekend of June 3-4 2017, the Tour of Cambridgeshire also features the individual time trial and a 120km Gran Fondo, both of which will also be held on fully closed roads.
The top 25 per cent of each age/gender classification will also receive an invitation to participate in the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships which will take place in Albi in France (August 24-27).
