Police in Essex have issued an appeal for witnesses after a 35-year-old cyclist was stabbed when two men tried to pull him off his bike. The cyclist, who has not been named, was subsequently treated at hospital for his wounds, with stitches put in his hands.
The incident took place at 1.15pm on Sunday lunchtime when the 35-year-old cyclist was riding along Heygate Avenue in Southend. According to Essex Police, two men approached him and asked whether he wanted to sell the bike.
When the cyclist said “no,” the pair tried to pull him off the bike but he held on, even after one of his assailants produced a kitchen knife, stabbing him in the hand.
Police said that the pair, described as white and in their mid-20s, one of them around 5 feet 9 inches tall, the other 5’6” and both wearing hooded tops, escaped by running towards the High Street.
