Sir Chris Hoy has revealed his ambition to cycle to the South Pole. However, the Scottish Sun reports that he is still on the lookout for a team-mate to undertake the journey alongside him.
Hoy outlined his plans on Top Gear, where he set a record lap in the Star in A Reasonably Fast Car segment.
“It’s a strange and huge challenge,” he said of his project. “I’m trying to find somebody stupid enough to do it with me. We’re chatting to a few people.”
He seems to be serious about it though, saying that his team are heading to Iceland to build an appropriate bike.
“It’s going to have to be able to deal with minus whatever the temperature,” he pointed out.
In 2012, Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton completed a 500-mile journey to the South Pole in aid of Sport Relief that saw her employ three different modes of transport: a kite ski, cross-country skis and an ice bike. It was said to have been the first time a bicycle had been used in an attempt to reach the pole.
In 2013, Great Britain’s Maria Leijerstram reached the destination by trike, becoming the first person to cycle the entire journey.
The Scottish Sun also reports how Hoy recently backed a group of “raunchy porn star cyclists” – the Porn Pedallers – ahead of a charity ride they were undertaking.

The Porn Pedallers, who describes themselves as “a ramshackle bunch of cycling enthusiasts who happen to work in or around the UK adult entertainment industry,” were riding from London to Belgium in time for last weekend’s Tour of Flanders.
One of their number was attempting to raise £10,000 to help pay for a friend’s son’s cancer treatment.

You're right--that was the other one. The relevance is that people keep complaining about how damaging the platform is, yet they carry on using it.

Anyone who in their life feels the need to take on an undertaking like cycling to the South Pole is ... very silly. Prince Harry might go with you.
Go and see a Shrink. Learn to be more at ease with yourself. Find pleasure in tackling less greedy and less ambitious personal projects. And think about your carbon footprint getting you all the way to Antartica.
Very few people would get the opportunity, you need the backing of a whole support team. Sir Chris is lucky enough to be one of those few people and who can blame him for taking the opportunity? Well, you Valbrona, obviously.
When you're one of the most successful cyclists ever, you kind of need a more ambitious personal project than your average Joe. I mean he's hardly going to be taken to the limits of his capablities by doing a 100km sportive is he. And I guess it is a bit silly - like the 1st expeditions to the poles and going to the moon.
Maybe he should be more like you?
Human Endeavour is so over rated, maybe he should "go and see a Shrink. Learn to be at ease with yourself".
Do you know Chris personally? Is he not at ease with himself? That saddens me a little.
I kind of thought the opposite; of someone so at ease with themselves that they're fully aware of what being at ease with themselves actually means. It means wanting to take themselves away from their comfort zone and not wither away into old age. I imagine he also thinks long and hard about the carbon footprint of acquiring his impressive medal haul. If every single human was like Chris then yes we'd have a problem, but having very few individuals who drive the human race forward is one to admire, not admonish.
It's always heartening to hear of every "ramshackle bunch of cycling enthusiasts" entering this wonderfully broad church of ours. We should welcome all comers.
