Mark Beaumont comes to end of round-Britain trip

Just a warm-up for his around the world effort in a couple of months’ time

Mark Beaumont has completed his 3,500 warm-up ride round Britain's coastline in 14 and a half days. He now plans to cycle around the world in 80 days.

“We live in a very hilly wee island,” he concluded. “It’s been tough riding.”

Beaumont began his round Britain jaunt on Tuesday April 4, aiming to maintain 240 miles a day, the same rate as will be needed to get round the world ride in 80 days.

Shortly after arriving back in Gravesend, he said that he felt good, but very sleep deprived.

Beaumont will now take a two month break before embarking on his round the world attempt.

Should he achieve his aim and ride 18,000 miles around the world in less than 80 days, it would knock 43 days off the current Guinness World Record.

His route will see him riding for around 16 hours a day through 14 countries. More details can be found on his Artemis World Cycle website.

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.

@ Bruce Dinsmore - you might want to change your road.cc user ID so that it isn't your full email address.  Spambots trawl websites for email addresses.

To do this, click on the "Account" button just above the road.cc logo at the top of the webpage, then click "Edit" and choose a nickname for yourself and enter it in the Username field instead of your email address. Then click on "Save".

@s-j

I don't think there was any such insinuation, just a recording of the opinion that Mike Hall's ride is way ahead of the "official" record.   The following comment clarified that (whether you view it by riding time or total time).

There was no reference to future attempts.  And no personal attacks...

Umm!  the late Mike Hall holds the round the world cycle record at 91days, 18hours.  Lets respect the dead. http://road.cc/content/news/59544-mike-hall-smashes-round-world-record-t...

The article refers to the GWR record for circumnavigation - their rules (which they changed after Mike Hall's epic journey) include total travel time, under which Hall's time would be 107 days, 2h, 30m.  Their rules suck (IMO). RIP Mike.

I'm was and still am a big Mike Hall fan but just because he passed away does not mean others planning to cycle around the globe should not even attempt it out of respect.

Your talking bull, if anything everyone should be cycling around the world to pay respect. If I could, I would have down voted your stupid comment.

Grr! I hate being one of those plonkers that posts the same text multiple times. Where's the delete button road.cc?

With that handsome  hooter he could easily be mistaken for another amazing cycler,  Wiggo.

They should ride tandem.

Is there a donation website?

He's someone I admire and I'd be pleased to help with his expenses.
