Veldt Trophy Head: the new way to hang your helmet

Whether it's tasteful or not is questionable, but if you want to make your bike helmet a centrepiece of the room then look no further... ...

Described as a "tasteful, yet playful take on the traditional coat rack", the Veldt trophy head screws into the wall so your helmet stays scratch-free.

The design is based on Constantin Brâncuși's Sleeping Muse; of which we can't see a great deal of resemblance to the famous brass sculpture ourselves, but it's something to tell your guests. Trophy Head is made of basswood that is laser-cut, and just two 4mm diameter screws are needed to affix him to your wall.

The actual hat worn by Richard Attenborough in Jurassic Park (probably, anyway) shown atop of the Veldt Trophy Head

Wanna get some head right away? For the price of £80 you can get one shipped within a week, so you can have the Veldt Trophy Head looming down on you in no time with your helmet/headwear of choice proudly rested on top. If we were to display all our helmets using Trophy Heads (plus road.cc's video editor Matt has a collection of flowery bonnets) we'd be racking up quite a bill, so at 80 quid a pop it's perhaps for best only.

If you want to find an example of a helmet worthy of being displayed on it, check out our performance helmets buyer's guide.

Arriving at road.cc in 2017 via 220 Triathlon Magazine, Jack dipped his toe in most jobs on the site and over at eBikeTips before being named the new editor of road.cc in 2020, much to his surprise. His cycling life began during his students days, when he cobbled together a few hundred quid off the back of a hard winter selling hats (long story) and bought his first road bike - a Trek 1.1 that was quickly relegated to winter steed, before it was sadly pinched a few years later. Creatively replacing it with a Trek 1.2, Jack mostly rides this bike around local cycle paths nowadays, but when he wants to get the racer out and be competitive his preferred events are time trials, sportives, triathlons and pogo sticking - the latter being another long story.

No helmets beyond the porch in my house. Wrath of god is upon me if cycling gear gets into the house.

Wot no Bluetooth? Surely any cycling invention can be improved by finding some way it can be controlled, monitored or activated via a dedicated smartphone app.

Yep, putting a sweaty old helmet over the mantlepiece is going to go down well in Casa de don simon.
