Today’s near miss happened earlier this week on the A10 in North London. A van cuts across the cycle lane immediately in front of a cyclist as the driver for some reason pulls into a bus stop.
In classic fashion, the driver indicates at the exact moment he makes his manoeuvre.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at about 5.20pm.
Uploader Mr B, told us: “The road becomes a bus lane ahead but I held off accelerating as I didn't want to be parallel with the van or undertake it. It proved to be a wise choice.”
He added that he had been riding with a friend at the time, "so it was almost two of us taken out."
The incident has been reported via the Met Police's RoadSafe website. This doesn't result in investigation or enforcement action, but does mean that details are logged should the same vehicle be involved in a criminal investigation at a later date.
Over the years road.cc has reported on literally hundreds of close passes and near misses involving badly driven vehicles from every corner of the country – so many, in fact, that we’ve decided to turn the phenomenon into a regular feature on the site. One day hopefully we will run out of close passes and near misses to report on, but until that happy day arrives, Near Miss of the Day will keep rolling on.
If you’ve caught on camera a close encounter of the uncomfortable kind with another road user that you’d like to share with the wider cycling community please send it to us at info [at] road.cc or send us a message via the road.cc Facebook page.
If the video is on YouTube, please send us a link, if not we can add any footage you supply to our YouTube channel as an unlisted video (so it won't show up on searches).
Please also let us know whether you contacted the police and if so what their reaction was, as well as the reaction of the vehicle operator if it was a bus, lorry or van with company markings etc.
It's actually even worse because Australian mandatory bicycle helmet laws require the helmet to have an Australian standard sticker....
Part of this was for some Schwalbe tyres - order arrived this morning, so that big slice of humble pie set me up for the task.
"Federation"??
I don't know. I saw there was a proposal to cut e-bike duties, I think.
It's not called the RideLondon-Essex sportive anymore. It's called the Ford RideLondon-Essex sportive. We should all remember that.
Yes but we all know that the cycle lane will be forgotten once the pedestrian path is done
I think traffic and congestion will be worse in ten years time.
I wasn't aware that there's such a thing as an English Highway Code.
