Lincolnshire motorist threw bucket at cyclist as he overtook

Vehicle will be seized if he does it again

A Sleaford motorist has been given a formal warning by police after allegedly throwing a bucket at a cyclist as he overtook.

Lincolnshire police officer Jimmy Conway tweeted:

The Sleaford Standard reports that a cyclist had been riding along Monks Road in Lincoln on Friday October 13 at about 10pm when a plastic car was thrown at them from a passing car.

A police spokesman said: “Officers issued the driver of the vehicle a s59 warning the following day. This means if they use a vehicle in the next 12 months in a manner that causes or is likely to cause alarm, distress or annoyance to members of the public, then the vehicle will be seized under the Police Reform Act and the owner will pay a fee to get it released.”

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.

Handy if you're needing a new bucket ... is it still an offense if you shout "catch"?

That would be beyond the pail.

They should throw the book at him.

So yet again the police fail to take appropriate action when an assault is carried out. an assault that could have easily led to death, it's this ignorance of actually using the law to be a deterrent is why we are in the situation we live in. Broken windows is the phrase i believe which raises from just a small relatively innocuous crime to something that builds into something far greater and has a societal impact.

Only if he's actually kicked it.

I wonder how much attention it would get if a cyclist threw a bucket, or a plastic car, at a pedestrian?  My guess is charged with assault and sent down for six months minimum, with the MSM all over it for several weeks.

Was it the driver who threw the bucket or a passenger ?  I can't imagine how I'd throw a bucket at a cyclist if I was driving.  Who even has a bucket in their car anyway ?

The poster is wrong - it should say "if you are using your vehicle in a manner which is... and are caught, TWICE!"

If they just crushed his car that might actually be a deterrent, instead of threatening to perhaps take it away and make him pay a trivial fine to get it back.

Typo alert. "when a plastic car was thrown at them from a passing car".

Credit to the police for following up, but feels a bit week.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. If you're going to point out a mistake, and why not, you have to be careful with your own speelllling.

We play road.cc-bingo in the office every day. Whoever correctly guesses what the number of typos published during that day will be gets to bring in the coffee the next morning. Everyone wants to be wrong, like everyone wants there to be no typos one day.

Isn't that a sweepstake rather than bingo? Road cc bingo would be having a series of words to match; close pass, Audi, killed a cyclist, momentary lapse, 3 points etc.

@janusz0 - I'm correctly aware of these terms. Read this and you will be too: https://www.spectator.co.uk/2014/07/dot-wordsworth-origins-of-the-toe-rag/

"Vehicle will be seized if he does it again actually gets caught again for a similar offence while using a car"

FTFY.

Why is it treated as a motoring offence? If you throw a bucket at someone shouldn't it be classified as assault - even if it is from a car?

What would they have done for a drive by shooting, just given them some points on their licence?

Why isn't he named anywhere? Whose idea is it that toe-rags like this deserve to have their identity protected? WTF??

A formal warning?! That implies they think he might not have been aware throwing things at cyclists is illegal.

Or maybe I'm wrong and there isn't anything illegal about throwing things.

Can imagine a few knuckle draggers now thinking it'd be hilarious to throw toy cars at cyclists while shouting some gibberish about getting a car.
