Video: Jeremy Vine films motorcyclist whizzing along cycle path

"Unbelievable" says broadcaster after incident in London on New Year's Day...

Broadcaster Jeremy Vine has tweeted a video showing the moment a motorcycle rider whizzed past - while riding on a cycle path.

The BBC presenter often posts footage recorded on his bike commutes to the social network - including one that earlier this year helped secure the conviction of a motorist following a road rage incident.

> Jeremy Vine road rage driver jailed after losing appeal

However, the video he uploaded at lunchtime today was taken from the passenger seat of a car that Vine was travelling in.

The engine of the off-road bike can clearly be heard as the rider approaches from behind and then, as he shoots off into the distance, a puff of smoke is emitted from the exhaust.

"Unbelievable" is Vine's verdict at the end of the video.

cycled past   a guy ziggzagging on a moped on the fallowfield loop a few months back. All I said was 'careful' as I passed him. Resulted in the guy swearing and revving his engine at me from behind passing me, waiting and doing the same for a couple of miles before he sverved off to make off to the shithole he probably sprang from. I have got it on video but not worth posting off to the police as the number plate was taped off, and he was all in black with helmet.  Now at least I  know why noone ever greets or responds to greetings when  cycling  on the fallowfield loop.... lol

Looks like the A316 eastbound just before Hospital Bridhe Roundabout in Hanworth.

It's not a road legal bike as others have said and generally if you see someone riding a motorbike without a helmet they are up to no good (as the Police won't chase them if they haven't got a helmet on).

This is just the motorbike equivalent of chav on BSO. No doubt most bikers at least have the full licence and insurance gig. This bloke is just a shitstain doing shitstain things and happens to be using  a motorbike. He's probably off out in a stolen car later.

It's all hardly 'unbelievable' unless you never go outside.

They take the shortcut along the cycle track after they have just shot someone.

This isn't America. He's just stabbed someone instead.

Hardly unbelievable. Certainly not as concerning as uninsured/unlicensed/drink/drug/phone/incompetent motorists.

Wake up wellsprop. The guy was speeding along  on a motorbike using a path designed for pedestrians and cyclists. He wasn't wearing a helmet. if he did have insurance it would be void for riding without a helmet and not on the the road. I wouldn't be surprised if he was also intoxicated and chances are the motorbike was stolen.

Travelling at that speed if he had hit an unsuspecting cyclist or pedestrian the consequences could have been fatal. Do you really think that  behaviour is not on par with car drivers committing the same offences. At least car drivers don't fly along cycle paths.

It's a pit bike and is not road legal. These are for off-road use on private land only, not that it stops some idiots from buying these things and riding them wherever they like. There is a correlation between the ownership and use of pit bikes and other criminal activity. Basically if you don't have a big plot of land of your own to ride one on, like a farm for instance, why would you want one?

Some lads in our area have them and are to be seen whizzing across the local park from time to time. I took some footage of them a while back but I was too far away for it to be usable so I didn't send it to the cops.

Except he is a motorist and is probably uninsured, unlicensed and definitely incompetent.

There's no probably with regard to his being uninsured. The bike is not road legal. Trust me, he has no insurance.

As another post comments, this is to motorcycling as a chav on a BSO is to cycling. It's unlikely the rider has a licence, as why would someone with one want to risk their licence riding illegally on a bike that's not road legal? There is a strong possibility that the rider is involved with some sort of low level criminality as well. There is a correlation between risk taking behaviour and breaking laws of one sort, linking with lawbreaking of other types. The guys who ride pit bikes round our way tend to be involved with the local gangs and/or in dealing in drugs.

It happened to me. I had a full head on with one on a bike path. Fortunately only broken bones etc for me but could have been much worse. I was 46 at the time. If it had been somebody 6 or 66 I wouldn't have fancied their chances.

No real difference between that guy and someone on an e-bike, just less noise.

The MASS of a motorcycle means there is a lot of momentum that will be transfered to any victim they collide with who will likely be killed.

Legally, very different.

As they are faster and heavier they would cause more injuries to anyone they hit. https://news.sky.com/story/cctv-video-shows-harrowing-moment-girl-is-mow...

Seriously?

It is both faster & heavier than any eBike I've seen. I know which one I'd rather be hit by if I really had to choose.

To be honest, a motorbike on a Cycle Path and who isn't a Deliveroo is quite uncommon

Unless you happen to have a local traveler site or be close to a rough estate.  Unfortunatly kids on the tow path on pit bikes are far too commen a site close to me.

"Unbelievable!", says telly presenter. "Totally believable and how have you never seen that before?", says everyone else...
