Video of car passenger throwing orange juice over cyclist goes viral

Footage was posted to the video-sharing site, TikTok

Footage of an incident in which a car passenger threw orange juice over a cyclist has gone viral after being posted to the video-sharing app, TikTok.

The video, which was posted on Friday and can be watched here, has amassed almost 700,000 views and 18,500 likes as well as nearly 1,000 comments to date.

It is believed that the footage was shot in Australia. It shows the passenger leaning out of the vehicle as the driver passes the cyclist, then throwing the orange juice over them from a McDonald’s paper cup.

One commenter to the video called it a “just a d1ck move,” while another observed, “Wanting to do this and actually doing it takes a special kind of sickness.”

“People like this should lose their drivers license and have to ride a bike,” said one response to the post. “Roads are not just for cars and cyclist have every right to use the road.”

Another commented: “When you get charged with assault you gotta post that too.”

Predictably, the video has also attracted a number of anti-cycling comments too, such as one that read, “I’m so glad someone finally did what I’ve always wanted to do.”

Originating in China and launched abroad for iOS and Android devices in 2017, TikTok has been downloaded by more than 1 billlion people globally and was the seventh most downloaded app of the past decade.

Football kicked into the wheel and silly string sprayed into my face; both Filton, Bristol.  Remains of a McDonalds chucked at me in Bedminster, Bristol.  'Up and coming' areas!

Not really, they are both shitholes and have many undesirable people. I'd get their number and do some searching..

Aaron Borg is quite an unusual name and there's not many in Australia. One in particular is a go kart racer.

Not saying it's him but it's pretty dumb posting shit like that on an account under your own name.

I was once stuck in traffic in the car when some kid in a minibus thought it was a good idea to start spraying the contents of a drink carton at other vehicles.

Unfortunately for him, his school's name was all down the side of the bus and I emailed the school with photos of the stain down the side of my car. I got very apologetic letters from both the school and the kid a few days later 1

I've had McDonalds wrappers and even a drink thrown at me before (I used to live not far from a drive-through) and the last one was a sandwich thrown at me as part of a close-pass that hit me on the arm. No action taken by the police, despite handlebar cam and, presumably, CCTV from the train station we were passing at the time.

No surprise - they wouldn't come out when I had mild acid thrown at me, despite me having followed the car to a house then called the police while the attacker was still in the house.

Such crimes have to be defined as hate crimes, along with race and gender.  This kind of attack has happened too many times and we need the protection of the law.  I'm sure the government in the UK will get around to it once them and their friends, sponsors, have milked the country for every penny they can extract from the poor.

You probably do have protection under the law - it’s enforcing it that is the problem. In Australia it would be covered under the summary offences act, discharge missile to endanger person or property which carries a fine exceeding $4000 and a possible 6 month imprisonment. And there’s penalties for drivers as well, such as a passenger putting any part of themself outside the vehicle.

My experience with this type of behaviour is that it’s been exclusively confined to young drivers on provisional licence (P1 or P2) with passengers who think its a lark, and no appreciation of the danger it causes. The one time I’ve been appreciative of mandatory helmets was when a 2 litre softdrink bottle was thrown at me from a car doing 80kmh. The best I can do as a cyclist is to use cameras to record incidents and hope police will prosecute based on the footage. I’ve had some success with this, a provisional driver getting a 3 month licence suspension and $1032 in fines because his passenger wasn’t wearing a seatbelt while hanging half out the window to spit at me, and for unnecessary use of the horn. But police were only concerned with the vehicle offences, not the spitting.

maybe but not always: had a beer bottle thrown at it me and nearly crashed....looked like a youth rugby team...following car more of the same kit and the middle aged "adults" in the driver and passenger seat seemed to think it was hilarious

think there was a survey a few years back that showed how common this is...intimidating and hard to ride the same section section of road without remembering

I had a full can of coke chucked at me once. That hurt. Another time a Mars bar which also hurt. Luckily neither hit me in the head.

Easiest protection under the law in Australia is to report them to the EPA for littering, chasing it up with the police is nigh impossible with a requirement that you describe & identify the person who threw it.  OTOH, *once* I did manage to get a follow up after being hit in the back by a thrown bottle of juice, in the words of the officer who phoned me back "I called in on the registered vehicle's address and found that they were driving mummy and daddy's car and that mummy and daddy were not impressed when I explained that they were identified .. blah blah". Of course no fine was issued

EPA? Does nothing about the assault and it’s only a $250 fine for littering from a vehicle, if they feel like issuing a fine or prosecution, not guaranteed especially when you consider how much information they want. That’s a defeatist viewpoint. Treat it as the assault it is, and report  it to police.

I'm starting to think that we should tell the cops that such attacks are motivated by hatred of our race, religion and sexuality. The current law is daft enough that I can decide unilaterally that I think the attack was motiviated by hatred of heterosexual, white British, lapsed Catholics and the police would be obliged to investigate it as the hate crime that it is.

That might come.  Now that vegans are a protected species, why not cyclists?

Anyone on the site got deep enough pockets to take this to the Supreme Court?

Imagine being at the same time stupid enough and cowardly enough to have "always wanted to do" this, but not summoned up the courage.

Some scumbag did this to me when I was training one morning. It's not nice to have to complete my ride with a sticky mess on my upper body ;-(

I was cycling home one winter when two yobbos suddenly decided to jump out from behind a bus stop to "make me swerve". It was only when I got home that I realised I had the saliva contents of one of thems gob all down the front of my jacket.
