The return of Knog Muddy Hell cyclo-cross

Dressing up… and racing back at Herne Hill on Oct 22

Saturday 22nd October sees the return of the picture editor's dream; an obstacle bike race with fancy dress.

Running for the third time at South-West London's legendary Herne Hill velodrome, the Knog Muddy Hell cyclo-cross is open to all categories - youth, junior, senior, novice, men and women not to mention vampires and ghosts considering its close proximity to Hallowe'en.

The ghoulish fancy dress or indeed dressing up in anything else is positively encouraged and entry is not restricted to those with cyclo-cross bikes as there are categories for mountain bikes, single speed and fixes, too. Our gallery shows pictures from last year's event.

Previous years have seen sell-out entries and huge crowds with atmosphere more akin to the huge Belgian 'cross events. Possibly because they'll also be serving frites and mayonnaise. And beer. In fact, as in previous years, the course will run through the drinks marquee with a hurdle so that spectators are thoroughly entertained without having to stray too far from the bar.

Accessory brand Knog is lined-up as sponsor with a £1,000 prize list as well as swag bags for winners of all categories.

Entry for spectators to the velodrome circuit is free and alongside the racing carnage and beer, there will be music, Rollapaluza roller-racing and hot food on offer.

The event starts at 5pm on Saturday 22nd October 2011 and more details can be found on the Knog Muddy Hell website.

For riders thinking of travelling for this event, the weekend is a double-header of cross events in London with the Rapha Super Cross happening the next day at Alexandra Palace Park over the river in North London.
