Today is World Carfree Day!

Leave your (powered) wheels at home

September 22 is World Carfree Day, organised by the World Carfree Network. If you normally drive to work then today's your chance to try an alternative – here at road.cc we'd recommend a bike, of course! As you can see from the WCD logo above, the idea here is that once you've tried a different way of getting to work you can try and fit it into your lifestyle, and not go back to the car.

"We do not want just one day of celebration and then a return to 'normal' life", say the organisers. "When people get out of their cars, they should stay out of their cars. It is up to us, it is up to our cities, and our governments to help create permanent change to benefit pedestrians, cyclists, and other people who do not drive cars."

There's a number of events surrounding WCD going on throughout the UK. We've already reported on a challenge from councillors in Oxford, but there's plenty more events listed on the WCN Wiki pages - see the WCD wiki page for more information.

Dave is a founding father of road.cc, having previously worked on Cycling Plus and What Mountain Bike magazines back in the day. He also writes about e-bikes for our sister publication ebiketips. He's won three mountain bike bog snorkelling World Championships, and races at the back of the third cats.
