aldi cycling sale 20196Aldi’s cycling sale is tomorrow - £25 bike stand and £80 smart helmet among the highlights
Aldi is preparing for another one of its popular cycle sales on Thursday 9th May, and the highlights include an £80 smart helmet and a £25 bike stand. The new range has been available to pre-order online since 5th May, but despite that, we still reckon there’ll be loads on offer in the shop tomorrow.
A highlight of the new offerings is a Livall Mt1 Smart Helmet (£79.99) which incorporates Bluetooth speaks and a microphone so you can take calls or listen to music when pedalling to the office. There are also LED turning and safety lights to help you stand out on the road.
Let’s just hope it’s better than the Livall Bling smart helmet we reviewed recently…
If you need to do some tinkering on your bike before going for a ride, this Bikemate Bike Assembly Stand is just £25. It’s got a quick release clamping system for easy use and so the bike cna be rotated 360°, and five legs for improved stability and a tough powder-coated steel frame.
Cycling clothing can cost a fortune, so the bargain-priced Aldi cycle clothing range is rightly very popular. You can get a Cycling Jersey for £9.99, available in several sizes for men and women and it’s got mesh panels to keep you cool in warm weather. Want to take small children on a bike ride? This Kids Bike Trailer (£84.99) is both a kids bike trailer and stroller with space for two children with a 5-point harness.

All made in China, of course, with the possible exception of the GT85, which might have been produced in a local petrochemical refinery. I'd have been interested in the workstand, but it isn't essential, so I'll stick with the council-provided wheelie bin. The handle/hinge that sticks out will hold a bicycle's weight, if you put a fortnight's worth of glass bottles inside to counterbalance it (although that does mean having to wait to do all your bike maintenance until the day before the recycling collection, or getting wrecked if needed sooner.)
Aldi have gone into reverse with their cycling gear in the past couple of years. I remember when they were trying to move into better gear and some of it was actually pretty good for the price. Now they only seem to be interested in the 'started riding, need some cheap gear' casuals.
I guess they will have done the maths and decided what was selling and worth investing in but the days of getting decent bib shorts and trousers have gone now.

I've ordered one of their folding e-bikes, £499.99. The specification is a little vague, but for that price, I won't be expecting top of the range equipment.
If you don't have a workstand that one looks like an absolute bargain. Your back will thank you.
I've got this workstand, even cheaper as I got it out of season. Very heavy (no bad thing for a workstand), the QR handle is a bit of a faff, but packs down relatively shed friendly. I like it and so does my back
I stopped giving a shit about Aldi/Crane cycling clothing when the size-fascists stopped doing size small.
Might pick up some GT85 or chain lube though, it'll save a few bob if nowt else.
My local Tescos is selling massive (450ml) cans of bog-standard WD40 for £2.75. The ones with the useful straw built into the cap. You can also transfer the cap/straw to other aerosols.
