Muc-Off Subscription_Boxes_-_Enthusiasts_Large_2_2048x2048Muc-Off launches new ‘Ride Box’ subscription service for keeping your bike care stash topped up
Muc-Off has launched a new ‘Ride Box’ subscription service to help ensure riders never run out of bike care and cleaning essentials. You can save money too and Muc-Off also notes that with the bulk shipments this service reduces the number of deliveries needed, which is kinder on the environment.

The new Ride Boxes are delivered directly to customers every three months and are offered in a total of eight different variants, covering off-road, road and e-bike use. Muc-Off also has a range of size options too, so “every type of rider and riding is catered for”, says the brand.
“The service experience begins with a short series of questions based on customer riding habits, including frequency, duration, discipline and location, to ensure the boxes are packed with exactly the right products, at the right quantity, for each rider, from across the Muc-Off Clean, Protect and Lube range,” explains the bicycle care and maintenance brand.

Editing, pausing, skipping or cancelling a box can be done at any time, says Muc-Off, either directly through the personalised customer portal, or via the customer support chat facility on Muc-Off.com. There’s no “tied-in-for-life nonsense” the brand promises.
Muc-Off says it will also be throwing in free stash with every delivery, along with exclusive early access to the latest content, as well as ‘first-looks’ at new product releases.
The brand has had quite a few interesting launches this year including a “pro-level chain optimisation service” that utilises new ultrasonic clean and lube tanks, making drivetrain efficiency accessible to all riders. This service also makes use of another product which was released this year, Muc-Off’s Ludicrous AF lube, which it claims is “the world’s fastest lube”, offering 18% less power consumption than the nearest competitor.
Prices start at £39.99, you can start your ‘Ride Box’ subscription here by filling out the form with your typical riding details .
Based on riding 1-2 times a week, for 1-3 hours on a road bike (with no electric assist), for example, Muc-Off reckons you’ll need the enthusiasts ride box - small box every 3 months which costs £54.99 as part of the subscription (down from £80.93 if purchasing separately). If you pay for the whole year upfront you’ll also save another £20.
Does the subscription take into account that the products will run out at different rates, which can often depend on your personal technique when applying? It's hard to say without giving it a go!
Instead of using this subscription service you could of course keep an eye on what you use yourself and what you have left, and then re-order quarterly accordingly. But if you'd rather take your mind off it and purchase the products at a discounted price, perhaps this could be a useful service for you.

Muc-Off has always been magic beans for morons, this seems like the next locigal step.
This has to be the workings of the new era of marketing - an established brand (who can safely rely on press releases being regurgitated) 'launches' a really niche, bordering on absurd, new service/product which then gets masses of coverage in response to said absurdity . Brand gets loads of clicks/exposure, it's profile boosted/maintained and it'll be far cheaper to provide the novelty service/product to a tiny number of people than for the equivalent exposure via paid advertising.
Each additional bottom half of the internet comment fuels the exposure and feeds the nonsense... ah... oops.
I forgot to add - you have to give them credit, especially as more switched on companies realise that much social media advertising is akin to burning money and would rather retain control of their output rather than rely on an algorithm and a promise.
Muc-Off even have a product called Ludicrous for crying out loud, and that's before people starting commenting on this subcription services! People who use this service are being taken for mugs.
While I do use Muc-Off products, although not enough to warrant a subscription, I find a bucket of warm water and a simple sponge after every dirty/wet ride is quite sufficient to rinse off the mud or salt. Like everything associated with cycling it's all become overcomplicated and unnecessary.
Great idea but i think you'd have to be some kind of professional bike cleaner to warrant a subscription service and, I guess, a bike shop would just use whatever they stock & pay the cost price for it.
I clean three bikes with regularity and i seldom need to buy loads of stuff in the year. I'm out.
Out of curiosity i clicked on the website to 'build my own box' and tailor it for the amount of riding that i do.
Mucc off would have me pay £60 every 3 months or £220 a year.
I probably dont even spend £60 a year on consumables for my bike and i cycle 4-5 days a week on average.
I have bottles of Mucc off lube that have been in storage for a long time because i pick them up on sale and dont really re-apply them on my chain once every two weeks like a lot of people do.
The amount of money i need to spend on consumables every year is so low that if i need to buy consumables then I just buy them. I rarely run out as i stock up when they are discounted if im running low and then im completely set for another 2-3years.
A 5L bottle of Nano-tech bike cleaner is currently £24 at halfords. Since i dilute mine and always had good results. 5L goes a long way. Obviously you dont need to dilute as its not a concentrate but i do it anyway
5L of concentrate is £80 though.... Fenwicks concentrate FS1 is roughly £10 for 1L and comes highly recommended as a cheaper alternative.
I mean yes - great, free loot and all that but the money you save from not spending excessively or being more frugal when it comes to consumables means you can have yourself a nice fish & chips treat from the chippy every so often and still have plenty of money out of that £60 a month or £220 a year to spend on other things that might be more important if a trip down the local chippy isnt quite your thing.
I can't quite believe those prices. And a quick look shows Muc Off Drivetrain cleaner on special offer down from £39.99 per litre to £30! You what? That's £200 for 5ltrs!!! Or the bargain price of £150 if it's on offer. Holy cow. Do people honestly pay that much?

I buy 5ltrs of Screwfix No Nonsense Degreaser which gets my drivetrain sparkling for £8.99. I use that neat, but it could be diluted 50/50 with water and it would still clean all the gunk off my drivetrain with a brush and old takeaway tub. I simply cannot see any bike specific product doing a better job - they couldn't possibly because it's sparkling using the Screwfix degreaser!
As for bike wash, well once again there simply isn't any need to buy a cycle specific product at inflated prices. Motor trade wash products are far cheaper and do exactly the same job. Even non-branded washing up liquid will at a fraction of the price.
And the best thing for cleaning bar tape? A little bit of washing powder or (clothes) washing liquid - they have stain digesters in that remove grime, grease, oils and muck. Worked in with a nail brush or just your clean hands, a bit of scraping with your finger nails on the stubborn bits and rinsed off with a hose. Sparkling, even white bar tape. And the really small amount needed is literally a few pennies worth.
The other item worth buying is Isopropyl Alcohol. You can get 5ltrs for less than £20, but that would last a lifetime! I have just finished a litre bottle and that has taken about 3yrs. It removes tar when rubbed with a microfibre, removes sticky residue from labels etc, can be used to clean disc brake pistons, seals and around the caliper to prevent sticking. As the final action when cleaning a disc braked bike I use it to clean the brake rotors. Even after a degrease and wash/ rinse an IP dampened sheet of kitchen paper still pulls muck/ contaminants off the brake track which will prevent your pads getting contaminated.
All at a fraction of the price of anything bike specific. There really is no need to spend so much when you can achieve just as good, if not better results using proprietary cleaners. And I have used Muc Off, and Fenwicks because people bought me them for Christmas in the past! I wasn't particularly impressed by the performance of either to be honest.
the point is - I have dedicated degreaser to degrease my chain. I dont use Mucc Off nano-tech/nano-cleaner as a degreaser.
It might state on the box that FS1 can be used as degreaser but (a) thats a really old review and (b) the formula has most likely changed since 2017 since its green now instead of red though they could have just added a drop of green colouring to it to fool people into thinking its a new formula.
Most reviews on retail websites give it 5/5. You can reference Merlin, Wiggle, Amazon... Any retailer that stocks Fenwicks FS1 and allows product reviews and you will see its highly regarded.

FS1 was just a suggestion however - You are free to use whatever you please to clean your bike. Even dish soap if that is what works for you.
