Commuter Diaries - beer and bikes

Commuter Diaries – Amazing Hedgerows, Celtic Crosses, Snt Austell Beer, Cream Teas and Fish ‘n’ Chips.

I took a break from commuting this week. I managed to squeeze in a few mini tours in Cornwall, while staying in a log cabin. I chose an MTB with semi slicks as this is a great utility bike, ideal for country lanes, forest fire roads and towing a child trailer.
Complete with rack and panniers I was prepared for a trip along the Camel trail from Bodmin to Padstow, as well as loops to Fowey and Looe. The panniers were for a few bottles of Snt Austell beer, one of which I am supping as I write. The “Proper Job” is particularly good and certainly did a proper job on me after half a dozen!
Riding around the Cornish lanes you become aware of just how steep the roads can be! Amazing hedgerows, so dense and tall even with an early spring growth, some of them are over six hundred years old. Undulating hills drop into wooded valleys and eventually coastal coves. The diversity of landscape makes the riding so enjoyable, that and the re-fuelling pasties and cream teas; obviously greatly deserved after a few hours in the saddle.

Hi-light of the week was riding over the bridge at “Old Town Cove” just short of Padstow, with spectacular views along the Camel estuary and across to Rock.
