Sir Chris Hoy will head a strong Scottish contingent at the National Track Championships in Manchester later this month. The 33-year-old has confirmed his intention to compete in the individual sprint and the Keirin and could also contest the team sprint as part of the Sky HD squad.
Hoy, who recently accused the BBC of ‘patronising’ the GB cycling team and treating cyclists like ‘performing monkeys’ on the night that he won the Sports Personality of the Year award, had a successful return from injury at a high-quality meeting in France two months ago.
Since then the triple Olympic gold medallist has focused on regaining full fitness and is looking forward to testing himself against domestic opposition before his first international outing of the new season.
The British Cycling's Senior National Track Championships take place from Tuesday, October 20-Saturday, October 24 at the Manchester Velodrome and it’s a chance to see the stars of tomorrow race against established National Champions and household names.
The championships will feature several other riders from Hoy's former club, City of Edinburgh, including sprinters Bruce Croall, Callum Skinner, Kevin Stewart, Charline Joiner and Daisy Sherwood.
The Senior National Track Championships includes a full roster of exciting racing - from short and sharp individual sprint events to youth, junior and women's Madison racing and team pursuits. Tickets are available from the 24 hour hotline on 0844 847 2425. Group bookings can be made by calling 0844 844 2121.
The event is the first of three amazing cycling events in Manchester this autumn. It’s followed by the UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics from Friday, October 30-Sunday, November 1 and the UCI Para-Cycling Track World Championships from Friday, November 6-Sunday, November 8.
And cycle fans watching Hoy in the Manchester Velodrome could get a coaching session with him at the very same venue thanks to Highland Spring. Highland Spring is encouraging consumers to get on their bikes with the exciting new on-pack promotion – Get in Gear With Chris Hoy. To enter the free prize draw, consumers can register via text message or on the dedicated micro-site at www.getingearwithchris.com.
