NI cancer survivor inspired by Lance Armstrong gets 200 santas on their bikes

Texan's book helps motivate Bangor woman to overcome disease...

A cancer survivor from Northern Ireland who was inspired to battle the disease after a friend suggested she read Lance Armstrong’s book, It’s Not About The Bike, got 200 people to dress up as Santa at the weekend to take part in a charity bike ride.

According to the Belfast Telegraph, Rosi Kirker, from Bangor, was inspired to organise the ride, from East Belfast to Comber, through the motivation she drew from reading the book, in which Armstrong relates how he overcame testicular cancer, which had spread to his abdomen, lungs and brain, to win the first of his seven Tour de France titles in 1999.

The ride, which took place last Sunday, saw 200 grown-ups and children pedal from Belfast’s Titanic Quarter to Andrews Memorial Primary School, and funds raised will be shared between the charity Bowel Cancer UK and the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
