Updated: Woman arrested after cyclist killed in Surrey hit-and-run

Incident took place on A24 during early hours of this morning

Surrey Police say they have arested a 47-year-old woman after a cyclist was killed in a hit-and-run incident south of Dorking in the early hours of this morning.

The victim, described as a 30 year old male who had been riding a mountain bike, was discovered by a member of the public on the A24 next to an Esso petrol station at Beare Green.

Police were called at 1.25am, but paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Officers issued a witness appeal this morning and this evening confirmed that a woman from the Horley area had been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of an accident and drink driving.

The cyclist was subsequently named as Robert Worrall, who worked at Groundscapes Ltd in Ockley.

Anyone with information about the incident is requested to call police on 101 quoting the reference number P14322368, orthe charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
