History of bicycles exhibition opens at Oxford Bus Museum

Display includes bikes, tandems and a 140-year-old tricycle

Oxford Bus Museum is apparently broadening its horizons having announced a new display focusing on the history of bicycles in the city.

Exhibition curator Roger Battley told The Oxford Mail:

"The museum has always housed buses and recently expanded to Morris cars and it seemed the logical step to create a display of bicycles.

"Although Oxford has not played a huge part in the manufacturing of bikes, the city has strong links to cycling and it is a very popular way of getting around. The bikes are all in place and people are very welcome to come and take a look."

The display features 42 exhibits, including various bicycles as well as tandems. There is also a tricycle which is celebrating its 140th anniversary this year. Manufactured in 1876 it has two 40-inch front wheels and a smaller back wheel.

The Oxford Bus Museum, which is in Long Hanborough, opens between 10.30am and 4.30pm on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Elsewhere, London’s Design Museum is currently hosting the Cycle Revolution exhibition, featuring bikes from some of the biggest names in British cycling – including Sir Bradley Wiggins, Sir Chris Hoy, Chris Froome and Chris Boardman. Focusing on all aspects of cycling, the exhibition runs until June.

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.

Is this to train bus drivers in target recognition?
