A cyclist has been killed in a suspected hit and run incident in Enfield yesterday. Anita Szucs is the first cyclist to die on London’s roads this year. Hours later, another cyclist was left in critical condition following a collision with a coach in Whitechapel. She later died in hospital.
The London Evening Standard reports that Szucs was cycling home from a late shift at a warehouse in Edmonton at around 1.45am when her bike was “sliced in two” by a small white car. The driver is reported to have fled the scene.
The collision took place in Bounces Road, Enfield, near Szucs’ home.
Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit based at Chadwell Heath are investigating. They believe the car would have been extensively damaged in the collision, suggesting there would have been a broken windscreen and dents to the bonnet.
Anyone with information should call the witness line on 020 8597 4874 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Just before 9am another female cyclist was left fighting for life in hospital after being crushed under a coach near CS2. It was later confirmed that she had died after being taken to an East London hospital.
The East London Advertiser reports that the collision took place near Aldgate East Underground on CS2 with the A11 subsequently closed from Adler Street to Commercial Street.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Officers from the Met's Roads Transport Policing Command are investigating. No arrests have been made. Enquiries continue.”
A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We sent a two single responder in cars, an incident response officer, an ambulance crew and our hazardous area response team to the scene.
“We also dispatched London's Air Ambulance to the scene. We treated a patient in cardiac arrest at the scene and took them as a priority to hospital."
