The council is taking action to remove ‘anti-cycling’ posters that have appeared near Dublin/
The signs were spotted by a local cyclist, who posted a photo to Twitter.
Others said: 'I look good in Lycra', 'We own the road, don't we?', and 'It's the hill of Howth not the Tour de France. Slow down.'
"There was about two dozen in all starting at Sutton Cross and going up Howth Hill until The Summit pub," Mr McManus told the Irish Independent.
"Obviously someone having a pop at cyclists but I think in the current climate over obesity and lack of exercise, particularly amongst the young, I just thought they were very insensitive.”
"We have been made aware of these signs and will be taking appropriate action," Fingal County Council told the paper.
Mike McKillen, spokesman for cycling.ie, went to check on the posters this weekend and said they had now been taken down.
"It's slightly funny but it's disturbing that people hate cyclists so much. It's a visceral hatred," he said.
"Things will be thrown out windows at us. It's worse in Australia or the US, where they'll throw beer cans at you. But it's very dangerous if someone is driving 50mph and throws something at you, which will also be travelling at 50mph.
"It encourages a redneck driver to do a punishment pass. "It is disturbing."

If anyone ever visits I recommend a nice spin up the Hill of Howth.
Fake news .
I'm not a Line of Duty type forensic scientist or anything but these pictures look obviously fake and my hypothesis is that the whole thing was invented by Dave McManus (a professional photographer incidentally). The reason the posters appear to have been taken down being that they didn't exist in the first place. I note that he has deleted the quoted tweets from his account.
lol, I live in the area and can confirm the existence of the posters!

I do look good in Lycra!!!
Is it me or does anyone else find it rather ironic. One poster complains about roads being blocked by cyclists and another about cyclist going too fast. The last complains about owning the road.
Those posters clearly point out the issues surrounding vehicle use, 4 cars wide, travelling dangerously close to eachother and using the horn when not permitted to do so...
A fantastic awareness campaign!
Indeed. I was so disappointed no-one created counter-posters or at least counter-statements to place over the top of them.
*that's* why I've lost faith in Ireland, because no-one used this as a great opportunity to poke fun at the people putting them up.
Spot of Tip-ex and just write "We're still thinner than those fat f**ks in their invalid carriages". Problem solved. Unless you're sulking round in your invalid carriage, of course...
I live in the US.. I've never had a beer can thrown at me.
Did make me chuckle a bit, to be honest. I do certainly see a few larger guys out in lycra, fair play to them, beats sitting on the sofa!
The jokes on whoever put the sign up when they keel over with heart failure. It is amusing though, most the drivers I've come across who have been agressive/anti-cyclist have been 50ish, bald and very overweight.
I assume they wish they were 20, with a full head of hair and 68kg
Could just change the message.
"Car drivers, know your place"
My opinion of the Republic of Ireland has seriously gone down these last few days.
Perhaps a little much to judge a nation by the actions of individuals.
Some have too much time to hate
Looks like a Garda campaign
