Cracknell to return home to family

Athlete due to leave London hospital

Olympic medallist James Cracknell is due to return home from hosptial later this week as he recovers from the skull fracture he suffered in a bike accident in the US, reports the BBC.

In addition to the fracture, Cracknell, 38, suffered damage to his brain when he was hit by a truck while riding in Arizona where he was filming for the Discovery Channel. The accident, which was not captured by the film crew, happened as the athlete was attempting to run, cycle and row across the US in 18 days for a series called Cracknell's Race Across America.

After a period in intensive care he was later flown back to the UK since when he has been recovering in a London hospital.

According to his wife Beverley Turner, Cracknell’s drive and determination has played a major role in his recovery.

His wife says the biggest challenge ahead of them will be getting her husband back to work.

"Rest and recuperation are strange concepts to such an active man," she said.
"But he is looking forward to being home with the children. Both James and I would like to thank everyone for their overwhelming support throughout this difficult process."
