Near Miss of the Day 14: Motorbiker overtakes cyclists at 100mph+

Our regular feature highlighting close passes caught on camera from around the country – today it’s Essex

The latest video in our Near Miss of the Day series shows a motorcyclist overtaking three cyclists - at a speed thought to be well in excess of 100  miles an hour.

It was filmed by Tarik Qirem when he was riding with his wife and a friend near Hullbridge, in Essex.

On the narrow country rode, a car being driven in the oposite direction passes the cyclists then, from behind, the motorcyclist races past them, causing Mr Qirem, who lives in Rpmford, to exclaim, "F*cking hell. Jesus!"

According to Deadline News, analysis of the footage suggests the biker was travelling at upwards of 100 miles an hour and possibly as fast as 130 miles an hour.

He said: “This happened to us yesterday, I wonder if the motorcyclist would be happy with a larger vehicle passing him leaving only about three inches between us.

“Please excuse my potty mouth at the end.”

He added: “What is clear in that video is how close he is, it was a matter of inches.

“The road was not in the best condition so we were having to weave quite bit, at that speed even if we checked before we moved out we would have stood no chance to react.”

Over the years road.cc has reported on literally hundreds of close passes and near misses involving badly driven vehicles from every corner of the country – so many, in fact, that we’ve decided to turn the phenomenon into a regular feature on the site. One day hopefully we will run out of close passes and near misses to report on, but until that happy day arrives, Near Miss of the Day will keep rolling on.

If you’ve caught on camera a close encounter of the uncomfortable kind with another road user that you’d like to share with the wider cycling community please send it to us at info [at] road.cc or contact us via the road.cc Facebook page.

Unfortunately this is only appearing to provide content for this website. If road.cc are really that interested why not use their ad revenue to help fund some private prosecutions. Now that really would be some action. At the moment it is just whining. Sustrans are there promoting cycling as transport. Is there an organisation out there to take up the cause and lobby MPs, fund private prosecutions etc. I don't know foes anybody else know of such a body?

Not quite as fast (around 80mph) but had a motorbiker cut a right bend heading towards us about 5 years ago that still sticks in the memory. I threw my arm up just as he was seemingly about to plough into us, I was virtually in touching distance if I'd stretched my arm out horizontally as opposed to the typical arm swing upwards that you do in disgust.

I honestly was hoping he'd be put off with my arm wave and smash themself into a telegraph pole/brick wall I was so disgusted with the recklessness.

motorbikers, there all the fecking same lawless cnuts.

No, they are now fat, old men that have move onto tourers and sports tourers. Britain used to be superbike mad but the buying pattern has changed to a more European one and the 600cc sports bike is basically dead now. All the hoops you have jump through to get a licence now have reduced biker numbers (but yet anyone can drive powerful cars)

If you want lunacy then Russian bikers seem the kings of stupidity.

Yeah sure they are- in the same way that all cyclists are lycra clad lunatics running red lights and scattering women and children as they hurtle along the pavement.

I'm going with some road users are idiots - no matter what the means of transport.

You need to have a good pass video section too. Rather than fuel the descending spiral of who's worst, show case the fact there are still a handful of nice human beings out there.
