Five Cool Things, a Christmas Special 2019: win yourself some road.cc socks by showing us your cycling-related gifts!

Show us your cycling-related Christmas presents and win socks (maybe even some bonus extra stuff too) it’s that simple! We’ll be perusing the best entries after Christmas day and publishing the article on 27th December, good luck…

Our weekly round-up of Five Cool Things usually shows off the latest and greatest products we've got in for testing here at road.cc... but as is fast becoming a Christmas tradition, this time we’re giving you the chance to show us some of the best, most interesting or downright silliest bike-related things you’ve got for Christmas, and our five favourites will each win a pair of road.cc socks!

Whether it’s destined to become your new favourite toy, or you were forced to make a grimacing smile before turning your thoughts to ebaying the undesirable gift before teatime, send us a photo (preferably with a bit of description and backstory if possible) and if it makes our list we’ll send you a pair of highly desirable road.cc cycling socks... and maybe even throw in some bonus extra gifts if we've got some suitable swag in our cupboard.

As an example of what you're up against, here is the Bicycle Bottle Opener gratefully received by one of last year's winners; and here is road.cc reader Gill Caine's wonderfully retro gift, 'Richard's Bicycle Book', from 1972, which handily tells us that cassette-type gears will never catch on and five-speed touring bikes are the bomb...

For this year's comp, you can send us your submissions in a number of ways: in the comments section underneath this article, via our Facebook or Twitter pages or by emailing info [at] road.cc. We’ll be judging over Christmas and Boxing day (deadline for entries is 11:59pm on December 26th), and the article will appear on the 27th. If you’re a winner you will receive a message of congratulations and a request for a delivery address, and we’ll post the prizes in January when our NYE hangovers have settled - you can’t say fairer than that. Best of luck, and Merry Christmas to all!

Arriving at road.cc in 2017 via 220 Triathlon Magazine, Jack dipped his toe in most jobs on the site and over at eBikeTips before being named the new editor of road.cc in 2020, much to his surprise. His cycling life began during his students days, when he cobbled together a few hundred quid off the back of a hard winter selling hats (long story) and bought his first road bike - a Trek 1.1 that was quickly relegated to winter steed, before it was sadly pinched a few years later. Creatively replacing it with a Trek 1.2, Jack mostly rides this bike around local cycle paths nowadays, but when he wants to get the racer out and be competitive his preferred events are time trials, sportives, triathlons and pogo sticking - the latter being another long story.
