Shutt VR release new softshell

At £69 it could be a real bargain

British clothing manufacturers Shutt VR are launching a new softshell jacket that will be available from next Monday, and priced at £69 it could turn out to be a bit of a bargain.

We’ll reserve judgment until we’ve actually given it a go, but Shutt promise us that the Active Softshell is wind resistant, showerproof, warm and breathable. You get a high, close-fitting collar, reflective trim front and rear, and both the hem and the cuffs are adjustable, allowing you to control the climate in there.

The cut is a little looser than you’ll find on some cycling jackets – it’s less fitted than Shutt’s own Winter Jacket, for example – and the back isn’t extended down, so you can wear it off the bike without it looking too out of place. We’ll be getting a review online as soon as pos.

Shutt have only been around since last year but the brand is making a considerable impact in the marketplace. The range, which is largely based on merino Sportwool, has increased massively over recent months and Shutt already sponsor a couple of race teams – Orbea-For Goodness Shakes!, which will become Twenty3c-Orbea next year, and also the Squadra Donne/Bikefood/Shutt women’s team.

Look out for several Shutt VR reviews on road.cc shortly. We’re currently testing the Signature Training Top, Race Lite Gilet and a couple of pairs of bib shorts.

Shutt are a small, new company on the block. They are taking the right approach; they know what the market wants and are gradually build their customer base by delivery, good, well made gear. As their market increases, I guess so will their female specific products. They are also very helpful and happy to chat, let you try on gear etc if you call in to their (slighty choatic)2 room HQ above a wine shop!

Keep up the good work Shutt and don't ever outsource the production to the Far East. Bradford needs you!

Cut them some slack guys. Though I don't really care whether you do or not because..Shutt VR are about 18months old and are going from strength to strength..their sales are going through the roof. They are less than half a dozen people and you're comparing them to Assos; that's quite the complement. They not only design in the UK but have them made here too and have been responsible for keeping a factory in the north west open! Unlike Rapha who have a massive margin on their jerseys made in Vietnam.

Eschler, Switzerland (the only overseas supplier they use as far as I know - yes I'm well informed) supply the material for their race cape. They also supply another famous company...Assos. Their Climajet is £169; Shutt, with some nice detailing is £59! You pay! Sign up for their club house on the site and you instantly get 10% of any and every order for the measly price of receiving a monthly newsletter.

But that's not the point... Assos jacket here in the US is $300, Shutt is a leisure cycling jacket for under $100.. Wouldn't wear my assos off the bike and I'm sometimes scared to wear it when its crap weather incase I damage it coming off.

I've sent a jersey Shutt for repair after I tore it in CX race, they repaired it FOC including postage back to the USA and it was back within 2 weeks like new with a free gift… I can't imagine that with Assos!

What do you expect for £69? The cheapest Assos jacket on wiggle is £165.99, they're aimed at completely different markets.

Your comment is like saying a Ford Fiesta won't be anywhere as fast as an Audi R8, it's a pointless comparison.

Great to see the guys expanding into a more leisure market…

Its a great price too with the £/$ exchange rate.. Shame its not a women's fit, I'll stick with Assos for now 16

I'm with you Fixie Girl. If it's not a (good) women's cut it's not worth £9.99 to me. Same with their winter jacket.

btw have you noticed how the Shutt www takes you from "Women" into "Jackets & Jerseys" that are mostly for guys??!?

Hi - Two reason, 1. We've sold out until we announce new womens garments in Spring 2. Feedback from our women customers is that the preferred the unisex cut of the mens garments… Leonie here will back me up here.. 4
