Plans approved for outdoor velodrome and BMX track in Knowsley

Local council hopes that facility opening will give rise to new club in area

A scheme to build an outdoor velodrome and BMX track in Knowsley on Merseyside has been given the green light after plans were approved by the local council. The 400m track will be 7m wide, with the BMX track located in the middle, and is due to open this autumn.

The facility will occupy the same site as a leisure and cultural centre currently being built and is expected to attract as many as 10,000 users annually, as well as potentially leading to a new cycling club being founded in the area, says Knowsley Council.

Councillor Eddie Connor, cabinet member for leisure, community and culture, commented: "This is fantastic news for Knowsley's residents and further enhances leisure and sporting facilities available in the borough. We are always looking to provide the best facilities in Knowsley and hopefully this unique community facility will inspire future generations of riders."
