The BodyFit Pro range from Sportful are their top-tier line. Developed with Saxobank-Tinkoff, it shares the same material technology, cut and fit as the WorldTour team. The Pro Race Jersey on test here is intended to be paired with the bibshorts of similar name.
Like the BodyFit shorts, aero fit is dish of the day here too. Constructed from panels of the same material throughout, it is a lightweight polyester, with an open, mesh like weave that is extremely breathable whilst having an element of stretch to it. It's not compression like the shorts, nor does it have dimples for aerodynamics, but it makes for a comfortable jersey.
The fit was good (medium): a tailed rear prevents the jersey rising up the back and cut around the chest was fitted but not constraining. Doubling up the cut at the arms creates a seamless arm opening, which held snugly around my arm, with no flapping in the wind. A similar finish is applied around the collar, although not as fitted as the arm; there is a drop at the front of the neck.
Large pockets at the rear will be good for those that like to stuff lots of things in but I found the excess material hampered the fit somewhat: my keys placed in on of the outer pockets would pull the jersey around my waist. A silicon strip around the base of the jersey only served to hold the jersey at the correct height, it was the excess material making up the large pocket that allowed things to swing around.
Since the whole jersey is made from a woven, meshed material, the wicking properties were excellent. Apparently, the rear features an extra dosing of this, not that I noticed a difference from the front. Either way, it is a good jersey for when the going is hot and sweaty; moisture is shifted almost instantly, keeping the wearer cool and dry. I had a full zip on test with neat and tidy plastic red zip that seemed durable, so you can let your chest fly if it's really sweltering!
Similar to the shorts, this jersey carries a fairly conservative design that I think looks great. In a stylish black on white or white on red (on test), it is a less garish way of owning Pro level kit. The white washed out well after a few rides on the more rural roads of the West Country creating tyre spray up the back.
Verdict
As with the shorts, I've enjoyed the advanced but basic qualities of this jersey. That oxymoron comes from the simple cut and single material used but with top wicking technology and elastic fit around the arms and collar. I found the large pockets too baggy for my tastes but I know many harp for large pockets, and when filled, the problem of excess material wouldn't be a problem. The RRP of £65 is reasonable, and about in-line with its competitors. For that, you get a stylish jersey that works well to keep you cool and dry.
