Lightweight’s new Meilenstein Disc wheels are 10% stiffer with wider rims

Improved stiffness and wider rim profile for Lightweight's Meilenstein Disc wheels

Lightweight has just issued an update of its Meilenstein Disc wheels that feature a 10% stiffness increase, wider rims to provide better compatibility with the wide tyre trend, and a low weight of just 1,380g for the clincher version.

road.cc tested the original Meilenstein Disc Clincher wheels earlier this year, and we said: “If you're looking for one of the lightest and stiffest wheelsets for your disc brake-equipped road bike, there are few better options than Lightweight's new Meilenstein C Disc wheels. They're incredibly stiff and highly responsive, but they come with a premium price tag.”

Lightweight has addressed one of our criticisms of those wheels. It has widened the rims, from 20 to 24mm, which will provide better compatibility with wider tyres, 25 to 32mm according to the company. The hubs are compatible with 12mm thru-axles and use the CentreLock standard for attaching disc rotors.

The wheels are still handmade in Germany using a unique construction process, involving carbon fibre for the hubs, 20 spokes and rims. The rims are still the V-shaped profile that is designed to maximise stiffness, which Lightweight says is 10% up on the previous wheels.

The production of the new wheelset remains the same: in usual Lightweight manner, every set is manufactured by hand in Friedrichshafen. The factory on Lake Constance has been producing highest technical standards for 20 years – not only high-end products for racing enthusiasts but also ultraprecise carbon lightweight components for satellites of the European Space Agency.

You can have your Meilenstein Disc in a choice of clincher or tubular version, weighing in at 1,380g and 1,245g respectively. There’s a max rider weight limit of 120kg.

One thing that remains with these updated wheels is the high price tag, the highest of any wheelset available on the market right now. The clincher version is €4,590 and the tubulars are €3,900. Too late to add them to your Christmas list?
