Video: Incredibly close call as cyclist in Russia caught in middle of crash between lorry and car

Incident took place yesterday in Lyubertsy, on the outskirts of Moscow; rider walks away unhurt

A cyclist in Russia yesterday had an incredibly close call with death when he found himself caught up in a collision between a lorry and a car – with the incident captured on CCTV.

The man was riding his bike across a pedestrian crossing in Lyubertsy, on the outskirts of Moscow, when a red car approached from the opposite direction just as a truck, whose driver appeared to have ignored the right of way, headed across the intersection.

The result was a spectacular collision between the lorry and the car that sends debris, and both vehicles, flying. The lorry was first tipped onto two wheels, possibly saving the rider’s life as it hurtled past him, before falling onto its other side.

The rider, on his knees, looked around – one can only imagine what must have been passing through his mind – before getting to his feet, while passers-by helped the apparently uninjured lorry driver out of his cab.

The footage is from a traffic surveillance camera operated by AVK-Wellcom, which uploaded the video to YouTube. This is the second video to emerge from Russia in recent months of cyclists emerging relatively unscathed from encounters with heavy goods vehicles, in July we reported on the even more remarkable case of the young woman cyclsit who walked away after being run over by a tipper truck in the Russian city of Zelenograd near Moscow.

They drive on the right in Russia, so why is the cyclist on the left hand side of the road ?. He may well be pissed which would explain why he's cycling on the zebra - but that may also be allowed in Russia. The junction is a mess, we would consider it unmarked but the centre lines appear to indicate that the red car has right of way and the truck should be stopping.

Maybe it's Ukraine and no one is really there ?

Only in Russia!

What a wanker that truck driver is. Let's not stop at this junction, that's a great idea! Prick.

The front left wheel seems to have hit his bike, which means that the part we don't see (which way he fell) means he was even luckier.

I went for a ride this morning, no vans hit me, not even a little bit. Not even a clip by a motorbike, sigh! My luck's clearly not in!

Cool guy, gets nearly taken out by a car, immediately thereafter wiped out by a lorry, sits in the road thinking "HOLY FUCK!!!!" for a few seconds then gets up to go and check on the driver without even looking at his bike. Chapeau!

Have you noticed how the lorry's wheels are still turning? I reckon there's an engine in there.

Ok they need more lines on the road maybe to make it more clear that you have to give way. 37

Wow, lucky.

How come Russian CCTV quality is so much better than here though?

Cyclist wasn't wearing a helmet either.

Yes I agree wholeheartedly, it was definitely the cyclists fault for not wearing a helmet! And I don't see a high viz vest, even a Sam Brown could have avoided all this carnage. When are they going to learn?

Only a crass, middle class wanker typing from the comfort of home 50 miles away would find the idea of people being attacked by far-right football hooligans funny.

Of course none of that applies to you...

Just a few inches (or seconds) to the left and he would have been part of the wreckage - lucky should be his middle name.
