UCI logo 2015Vasil Kiryienka of Belarus - and Team Sky - wins World Time Trial Championship
Vasil Kiryienka of Belarus is the new men's UCI World Time Trial champion, edging out Italy's Adriano Malori by just 9 seconds in Richmond, Virginia today. France's Jerome Coppel took the bronze medal.
Germany's Tony Martin, seeking to equal the four victories achieved by Swizerland's Fabian Cancellara, was off the pace throughout on the 53km course and ended up seventh.
Australia's Rohan Dennis, who briefly held the UCI Hour Record earlier this year, dropped out of contention after puncturing early on.Poland's
Poland's Marcin Bialoblocki, who rides for UK-based UCI Continental outfit ONE Pro Cycling, put in a storming ride to spend some time in the hot seat as virtual rainbow jersey winner - and would end up finishing a very creditable ninth.
Great Britain's Alex Dowsett, meanwhile - another of the hoders of the Hour Record this year - finished in 17th place, while the top placed British rider was Steve Cummings, 14th.
Kiryienka's win is the second successive victory by a Team Sky rider, and he succeeds Sir Bradley Wiggins in the rainbow jersey.
A hardworking domestique, the 34-year-old's victory is likely to prove popular with his team mate.

Does anybody know how much time Rohan Dennis lost with his mechanical?
They didn't say specifically because it soemthing like 30 seconds but they didn't know how long he rode with the puncture. I recal Dr Hutch saying it wouldn't have made a.difference judging by his splits.
There needs to be a sense of the unknown, it was exciting to see the Italian draw close to Kiryienka, only then when I saw how Kiryienka powered up the final hill I thought he had a chance of the win.
Sky always like to have a world champ doing errands to the team car. It gives the team an air of superiority
Chuffed for Kiryienka. Good to see some different names at the top, including British-based One Pro rider Bialoblocki. I wonder how Dumoulin would have fared if he hadn't ridden so hard in the Vuelta.
But why oh why can't the UCI / the TV company put times from the splits on the screen at intervals? Wouldn't be difficult. And they should make the GPS splits more reliable. They were useless! MotoGP uses markers to show riders' positions, WRC were overlaying relative positions on a stage years ago. Plenty of ways to make a TT more informative if they wanted to.
