Couple charged in connection with death of cyclist in Hampshire

Police have been investigating since April

A couple has been charged in connection with the death of cyclist Richard White on the A338 in Fordingbridge in April. Hampshire Constabulary renewed an appeal for information last month having up until then failed to track down a white Ford Transit flatbed van that was believed to have been involved.

Salisbury residents Noah Chapman and Rosie Pin have been bailed and are due to appear at Southampton Magistrates Court on October 4 and September 29 respectively.

Chapman has been charged with causing death by careless driving, and with perverting the course of justice. Pin has been charged with failing to provide information relating to the identification of a driver when required.

70-year-old cyclist Richard White from Salisbury sustained serious head injuries in the April 28 collision and died in Southampton General Hospital on May 18. Roads policing officers conducted extensive investigations to track down the vehicle which failed to stop at the scene.

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.

So, cut down a tree owned by council - year in jail

Kill someone in a hit and run - three years

I'm glad he's finally been convicted but 18 months is joke.

Thank fuck for that. Shame he didn't get more for all his attempts to avoid detection. Once again, complete lack of remorse.

Fucking hell, just looked at his Facebook. Degenerate into hare coursing and pikey garden work. Good ridance.

It would probably have helped if the description of the vehicle being sought matched the actual description of the vehicle being sought.

Description of vehicle - White Ford Transit Flat-bed Van

Actual vehicle - White Ford Transit Dropside Daycab Pickup

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-36952818

Note. Vehicle on Facebook - Ford Transit Dropside Daycab Pickup with a white cab and a royal blue body.

Perhaps we ought to be congratulating the police for their assiduous efforts to track down these killers?  They get enough flak on this forum, can't we recognise it when they do something right?

I agree. I live in Salisbury and they've worked really hard on this one - been in the local press quite a lot appealing for help. well done the boys in blue!

Indeed, assuming they got the right person, that's pretty impressive work. Hope they have managed to get the evidence to make it stick.

He has a peculiarly shaped nose.

He does seem like a charming chap - not.

The photo of him and his family in period dress is rather comical, the images of him with dead animals somewhat less so. That's a nice dog he's got and since we're looking for a whippet, maybe he'll sell it to us, since I imagine he'll be needing the money shortly.
