Wiggo to ride Cancellara's farewell race

Still unclear whether or not he will be drawing his own career to a close later in the week

Sir Bradley Wiggins is to take part in Fabian Cancellara’s retirement race next weekend. ‘Ciao Fabian’ will be held in Kuipke velodrome just three days before the Six Days of Ghent which will take place at the same venue.

The Swiss Olympic time trial champion delivered team-mate Fumiyuki Beppu (JPN) to a criterium win to begin the 25th Japan Cup last weekend and he will now bring his career to a close with a series of 2km pursuit races on Saturday November 12.

Sky Sports reports that other riders set to take part include Frank Schleck, Sep Vanmarcke and Filippo Pozzato.

Wiggins himself was due to retire after the Six Days of Ghent, but last week expressed a desire to take part in the 2017 Six Day London next autumn.

After racing this year’s event last week, he said: “I’ve enjoyed it that much, I just don’t know at the moment. I’d love to still be part of it in the future. I still love riding my bike, I love racing. Who wouldn’t want to come back, with a week like this and the crowds like this? It’s been incredible.”

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.
