The Metropolitan Police have release a statement confirming that a man has been charged with driving offences following an incident in Swain's Lane in Highgate in which a cyclist was seriously injured.
"Sean Fagan, 29, of Regina Road, N4 was charged on Monday, 6 May, with causing serious injury by dangerous driving in Swains Lane, NW5 on 21 April.
He is further charged with failing to stop after a road traffic collision and failing to report a road traffic collision.
He will appear in custody at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 7 May.
The charges follow an incident at around 1845hrs on 21 April in which a black BMW was in collision with a cyclist. The male cyclist was taken to hospital where his injuries were assessed as not life-threatening."
Medical student, Thonmoy Josh Dey, suffered bleeding on the brain, a broken nose and knee ligament damage when he was hit by a black BMW convertible - travelling on the wrong side of the road, while riding down Swain’s Lane last month.
The horrifying incident achieved national prominence after Josh obtained CCTV footage of the collision which he shared with his local paper The Ham and High.
Swain’s Lane in Highgate is one of London’s most famous cycling hills and is popular spot for riding hill reps, it is also perhaps best known as the course on which the annual Urban Hill Climb takes place.
