Arriving at road.cc in 2017 via 220 Triathlon Magazine, Jack dipped his toe in most jobs on the site and over at eBikeTips before being named the new editor of road.cc in 2020, much to his surprise. His cycling life began during his students days, when he cobbled together a few hundred quid off the back of a hard winter selling hats (long story) and bought his first road bike - a Trek 1.1 that was quickly relegated to winter steed, before it was sadly pinched a few years later. Creatively replacing it with a Trek 1.2, Jack mostly rides this bike around local cycle paths nowadays, but when he wants to get the racer out and be competitive his preferred events are time trials, sportives, triathlons and pogo sticking - the latter being another long story.

Was Evans Cycles ever great? In my experience it's just PCworld/Currys for bikes. No actual stock to buy on the day, all order to delivery or collect in store, at which point I'll just buy online somewhere else.
Last time I went in one I was after some pedals but they didn't have any stock but could get them in for me collect at some other point. I only went in as I was passing so there was no point me going out of my way to collect.
I've bought stuff online from them at good prices, but I've never bought anything more than a few gels to try and Assos chammy cream because I'd run out and was near the shop. I go into look and check fit of Castelli stuff, but their prices kill any chance of me buying from them.
I'd rather buy from my local LBS as we need them more than big companies
IMO, no. Happy to take your cash, but refused to deal with claims when things failed. To me, it became a place to try before you buy ... online at Wiggle.
The bike in the bike stand has its chain on the wrong side, I suspect photoshop..........
That Trek, probably been on an Easyjet flight !!!.
The Dutch rumble strip idea is not Dutch and not new.
Not sure about those Dutch rumblestrips playing a tune. Might be good to get drivers to drive at the correct speed to make the tune (which would probably only work once or twice, then people will ignore them unless the kids are demanding you ‘do it again dad’). The problem I can see with them is that they are by the kerb, so that is going to encourage drivers to drive nearer the edge of the road to ‘make the tune’, which will also possibly be a bit distracting, and of course is the area EXACTLY where cyclists would be cycling.
That road looks more like a motorway, so don’t even know if cycling is allowed on it, but if cyclists are I can see those tuneful rumblestrips being a danger to cyclists.

It worked, but didn't recognise the tune. Something Dutch and traditional. We need Land of Hope and Glory.
The Make Evans Great Again guy is one of the shop dudes from the Gatwick store, and he has a bunch of pro-Trump MAGA photos on his instagram account. Really wasn't hard finding that. Also look out for them spitting their dummy out when they get challenged about, well, anything.
I'm quite a fan of Pat Nevin, and it was a very interesting interview on Radio Scotland's Off the Ball, but he really ought to know that a trip to Arran is incomplete without cycling round - well within the capabilities of able-bodied visitors and there's plenty of availability of rental bikes.
Quality fact-checking with the Evans story, guys. This account had over 400 followers before it was hijacked.
Goan pork pies with a indian chopped salad.
Served a bit late, but she loved it.
That sounds delicious and I don't even eat meat.
Better half wouldn't let me watch it, she wanted Fake or Fortune on BBC4, but I've already downloaded it to my iPlayer and will watch it later. And I was cooking.
I did really enjoy last years TdF, watched it all, Alaphilippe definetely livened things up. Gave the French some real hope.
Agreed, Alaphilippe was superb. Shame for G that the stage was abandoned when it was, I think he and Bernal could have had a better battle otherwise. He hid is disappointment very well - he must have been absolutely gutted, but I suppose he has always followed the team orders when told to and comes across as incredibly professional with that in mind.
Anyhow, what did you cook for dinner? Anything exciting?

wonderful tight wheelbase on that Trek, must corner to the right beautifully
Watched "The Road Will Decide" last night, it was excellent.
So did I and it's well worth a watch (and I don't typically follow bike racing or have much interest in it).
One thing that I was surprised at was how skinny Geraint looked.
I bet if Pat Nevin had hit Abramovich, then that would have been one incident where the police would definitely have prosecuted!
