Copenhagen celebrates hosting UCI Road World Championships with a Cycling Festival

This September, from 17th to 25th, the city of Copenhagen in Denmark will be celebrating the occasion of its hosting the UCI World Road Championships 2011 and its status as a cycing city by putting on over a week of bike orientated activities and events throughout the city and surrounding area- a Festival of Cycling or Festdage i Cykelbyen as it is known in Denmark. 

The list of events is huge, with many still to have details confirmed, but its sure to say that the Danes will be throwing a decent party to celebrate the Road World Champs, bikes 'n' all. Events include environmental displays with bike generated coffee makers and the like, maintenance workshops, family rides, cargo bike racing, BMX showcases, exhibitions of the future for cyclign in Copenhagen and a whole host of other happenings. 

20th September will see a group ride along the course of the World Road Championships through the heart of the city, by way of a Bike Parade, starting on Hans Christian Andersens Boulevard at the Tivoli Gardens. The parade ends at the main focus of the bike festival in Jarmers Square. 

The buzz in Copenhagen for the World Champs themselves is going to be considerable. Factor in this Cycling Festival as well and it's got to be a great time for any cyclist to go and visit the UCI's first Bike City and see how an urban environment can be made genuinely cycle friendly.
