British Cycling has selected a team of 27 riders to sent to the UEC European Cycling Track Championships in Minsk, Belarus later this week, led by 2008 Olympic Champion Jason Kenny and Olympic Bronze Medallist Steven Burke.
The championships, which will be held on 15 – 19 July, are a major development goal for the Under 23 Olympic Academy and Olympic Development Programme riders who will not only compete against the best athletes in Europe but also have an opportunity to showcase their skills to GB selectors.
For some of the younger GB riders, this will be their first opportunity to race at an international event, whilst for others the event will be a stepping-stone to competing at the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Manchester in October and other World Cups and Championships.
Great Britain has a strong track record at European Championships and the event is an ideal testing ground for the GB Cycling Team. The riders have been training for the event in Manchester and Newport, with squads practising drills and fine-tuning their performance.
The GB Cycling Team for the UEC European Cycling Track Championships includes:
Under 23’s: Sprint – Peter Mitchelll, David Daniell, Jason Kenny and Jessica Varnish; Endurance – Anna Blyth, Alex Greenfield, Steven Burke, Andy Fenn, Luke Rowe, Mark Christian and Eric Rowsell.
Juniors: Sprint – Kevin Stewart, Callum Skinner, Lewis Oliva, Kian Emadi and Becky James; Endurance – Laura Trott, Ella Sadler-Andrews, Jessica Booth, Corrine Hall, Sarah Reynolds, Tim Kennaugh, Chris Whorral, Dan McLay, George Atkins, Sam Harrison and Jon Mould.
