Wales flagLottery funding secured for closed road circuit near Abergavenny
£150,000 of National Lottery funding has been secured for a closed-road cycling circuit near Abergavenny, Monmouthshire.
The 1.2 kilometre track will be built at the Gilwern Outdoor Education Centre a little to the west of the town, reports the South Wales Argus.
It will also be financed through match funding from Monmouthshire County Council, under the Sport Wales Calls for Action programme.
It is expected that more than 1,000 people will use the six-metre wide track each week, with the facility serving local schools and adult cyclists for training, racing and recreation as well as providing a venue for riders with disabilities.
Last weekend saw the Abergavenny Festival of Cycling, with New Zealander Mike Northey of Node 4 Giordana Racing following up his win in the Wales Open Criterium on Friday with victory in Premier Calendar race the Grand Prix of Wales on Sunday.

Just got my set, the actual weight for rim brakes are 692g front wheel and 860g rear wheel. So a total of 1,552g (with rim tape, and no valve).

Probably managed in a similar way to the new Odd Down circuit Bath. Varied use including sessions for newbies, school groups, club training, races, etc.

Sounds very much like Hog Hill (Redbridge) centre near London. Very good mix of the types of access you're talking about. Hopefully this will be the same

I do wonder just how open this would be. I seem to recall other tracks like this having little or no access for individual riders.
I see the need for control, you don't want the local chaingang mixing it with a mothers and toddlers group but at the same time I do hope that it has general access times.
