Yes it's a bottle of lube, yes it's £65 quid... but of course, this isn't any old chain coating according to the folks at CeramicSpeed. The UFO Drip is applied in liquid form but hardens to form a dry chain coating after you've slung it on, which they say generates less friction than any other chain lube on the market; in fact, the only thing they say outperforms it is the factory-treated UFO Racing Chain, made by CeramicSpeed no less. They also claim that the coating provides extra protection against contamination of your chain because it closes all around it, so there's less chance of mud and grime generating friction. It's recommended you apply it every 200km. Would our tester lube his chain with anything else nowadays? The verdict is coming soon...
The Nuroad is Cube's "fast, fun and versatile" gravel offering, which is ready to take on the commute, muddy routes and everything in between with mudguards and lights coming fitted as standard. Tyre clearance is up to 40mm while the lights are the dynamo-powered Supernova E3 lighting system, with a Racktime Light-it luggage carrier thrown in for good measure for commuting and bikepacking duties. our test model comes equipped with Shimano's GRX gravel-specific groupset, while the geometry is based around that of Cube's Attain endurance road bikes, designed to be stable and comfortable for long days in the saddle: "ride further, ride more adventurously. There's no longer any need to take shelter under a tree to wait for the worst of the rain to pass thanks to the Energize jacket, say Liv, which offers you strong rain protection in a lightweight and comfortable-fitting package. The ProTextura fabric is responsible for keeping the rain out, while the back length is longer to provide extra coverage. There's a fron zipper pocket, venting on the back and an adjustable collar worth a drawstring hem and cuff design to get the ideal comfortable fit. This weenie rear light from ETC weighs just 34g... which might make it a good option for hill climbers, who have just found out they will need to add a compulsory rear light to their bikes for races! The smart tech inside means it has an automatic rear brake sensor, and the beam strength is 60 lumens on the brightest setting. Charge time is 1.5-2 hours while the run time from the USB-rechargeable battery is between 1.5 and 16 hours.
These performance road shoes from Bontrager retain the unusual rear-mounted BOA dial seen on some of their other high-end kicks nowadays, and these ones have a breathable knit structure on the upper. They also have a DWR coating to stop your feet getting wet and cold, and Bontrager say they're super breathable and "designed to wrap your foot in slipper-like comfort." Arriving at road.cc in 2017 via 220 Triathlon Magazine, Jack dipped his toe in most jobs on the site and over at eBikeTips before being named the new editor of road.cc in 2020, much to his surprise. His cycling life began during his students days, when he cobbled together a few hundred quid off the back of a hard winter selling hats (long story) and bought his first road bike - a Trek 1.1 that was quickly relegated to winter steed, before it was sadly pinched a few years later. Creatively replacing it with a Trek 1.2, Jack mostly rides this bike around local cycle paths nowadays, but when he wants to get the racer out and be competitive his preferred events are time trials, sportives, triathlons and pogo sticking - the latter being another long story.
