Five winter cycling staples we're testing from Gorewear, Pas Normal Studios and Scott

As the temperatures drop and days get ever shorter, we've got our hands on five exciting pieces of winter clothing from top brands. From Gorewear's ultra-thin, windproof Ambient Vest to Pas Normal Studios' versatile Escapism Wool Long Sleeve Jersey, we're putting these products to the test in real riding conditions. Gorewear Ambient Vest Mens - £99.99

Gorewear's Ambient Vest is an ultra-thin, lightweight gilet that offers windproof protection and breathability. It's got Gore-Tex Infinium Windstopper tech incorporated, which means you should keep the breeze out but let sweat easily evaporate.

The gilet has quite a sleek design, completed with stretch mesh panels to keep it aero – and it only weighs 58g so it will not weigh you down, either. Paired with a good winter cycling jersey, this should keep you warm until those sub-zero temps arrive.. but we'll let our reviewer have the final say!

Gorewear Everyday Jacket Women's/Mens - £159.99

You can forget about aero with Gore's Everyday Jacket, which we're testing in both the men's and women's fit. This winter cycling jacket is designed for both cycling and daily life, which means it's not as tight-fitting as a pure performance layer would be.

There are windproof fabrics on the front and sleeves, and the back is made from highly breathable, quick-drying stretch material – and some of the fabrics used incorporate recycled materials. For carrying things, you get zippered front pockets.

Pas Normal Studios Women's Escapism Wool Long Sleeve Jersey - £160.00

The Pas Normal Studios Escapism Wool Long Sleeve Jersey is dubbed as an "all-purpose cycling jersey" perfect for battling colder temperatures during long rides.

It's crafted from a blend of premium wool and polyester, which should make it effective at dispersing moisture. It's naturally odour-resistant, features an abrasion-resistant design to prevent pilling, and includes a two-way front zip and side zipper pocket for valuables.

Gorewear Progress Thermo Bib Tights+ Womens - £119.99

Moving onto the bottoms, we're also testing the women's Progress Thermo Bib Tights+ from Gorewear. These full-length winter bib tights are tailored for winter cycling, and have thermal insulation and wind protection built in, and a very comfy-looking upper bib that adds breathability and warmth.

The chamois is made by Elastic Interface and Gore says is best suited for short to middle-distance rides. The brand also says it's added a "very breathable insert in the front [that] protects sensitive areas from wind chill".

Scott RC Pro Warm GORE-TEX +++ Men's Bib Tights - £154.99

The Scott RC Pro Warm GORE-TEX +++ Men's Bib Tights are a mouthful to say, and Scott also claim they're the warmest pair of bib tights in the brand's lineup.

Designed for the coldest conditions, they feature Gore-Tex Infinium Windstopper technology strategically placed in the front, so they should keep your legs warm and shielded from the wind. In a slim race fit, they should be optimal for performance riding. The padding is SCOTT +++ Pro for maximum comfort.
