Saturday 26th September 2015 sees the first ever Wales in a Day cycle sportive organised by Open Cycling (www.opencycling.com). Its inception came from another event organised by the same company, Coast to Coast in a Day, however the new event is more extreme. It’s longer, tougher and is in September rather than June so adding extra complexity not only to the organisation but also for the riders with more darkness involved.
The event starts in Caernarfon from inside Caernarfon Castle, which is a pretty spectacular place to kick off this iconic ride.
After leaving Caernarfon riders will head up and over the Pass of Llanberis down to Capel Curig and Betws-y-Coed. From there you are directed across country along some amazing country lanes through Penmachno and onto Bala. On leaving Bala the B4391 will lead you towards Lake Vyrnwy, a stunningly beautiful section of the ride.
Keeping where ever possible to minor roads the route winds its way to the next feed station at Tregynon, followed by a quick downhill section on the A483 towards Llandrindod Wells. Here once again we leave the main road and head towards Penybont and onto feed station 3 at Hundred House. Here riders will have the chance to refuel again before hitting the iconic Gospel Pass after passing through Hay on Wye. It’s still a long way to Chepstow.
After the descent of Gospel Pass it’s onto Abergavenny and our final feed station at the Llanellen Village Hall before the final push of 22 miles into Chepstow and a finish at the Castle.

One way to find out is to put a member of the driver's family on the bike and ask them to repeat the manoeuvre.
This was in my local park and dogs are allowed off-lead. Cyclists are required to ride slowly and give due care and attention as it happens.
