Evans Cycles Scotland-Langholm Sportive
For this ride we’re joining in with the Muckle Toon Festival in the town of Langholm, about 20 minutes over the border in Scotland. There’s a full programme of events planned, including planned walks, a cross country run, and of course two days cycling in the great Scottish countryside.
This ride is stunning from the start; as you work your way up the valley floor, passing silent wind turbines and vast rolling panoramas of the border hills, the natural beauty of the wilderness is evident. The charm of this ride is however mirrored with some challenging sections; for those on the short route, dig deep as you cross Kirtle Water and start the steep ascent. Once you reach the summit it's time to get tucked down for the five mile "Catch Me If You Can" descent back to Langholm. Those on the medium and long routes will find a real sting in the tail; a 21% climb reveals itself with 7 miles to go followed by a further three and a half mile slog to the Roxburgh/Dumfriesshire Border Sign. Let your legs recover slightly before the final push towards the ever beckoning Langholm Monument upon Whita Hill. Roll past the iconic Hugh MacDiarmid Memorial as you begin the exhilarating descent to Basecamp.
