Men's sprint 1-2-3 for Team GB on another golden night in Manchester

Hoy imperious, Crampton and Kenny on the podium too

Chris Hoy showed he was back to full fitness with an imperious 2-0 win over Matt Crampton in the men's sprint last night, with Jason Kenny taking the bronze for a team GB clean sweep. Hoy's dismissal of Australian Shane Perkins in the semi was as impressive a display as any before his crash in Copenhagen, and Crampton was no match for the Scot either. Along the way Hoy improved on his Manchester track record, setting a new mark of 9.869 seconds for the flying 200m.

"It means a lot", said Hoy afterwards. "I've been riding the World Cup series for a few years now but when it's your home track and you've been off the bike for so long – you do ask whether you'll be able to make it back to the level you were at before. To do it yesterday and today, and to set a personal best on this track and break the track record this morning, and to have such a strong challenge from three other brits in the top five: it bodes really well for the future"

Lizzie Armitstead was back on top of the podium after the disappointment of the scratch race, taking the women's points race with an intelligent ride against a very strong field. Wendy Houvenaghel also had her time atop the podium with a win in the Women's pursuit. Victoria Pendleton was in action in the 500m time trial and managed a personal best of 33.838 seconds in an even she doesn't favour to finish second behind Australia's Anna Meares.
