Cyclist dies in St Andrews following collision with pedestrian

63-year-old woman suffered fatal head injuries; police appeal for witnesses

Police have issued an appeal for witnesses after a female cyclist died following a collision yesterday with a male pedestrian in St Andrews.

The 63-year-old woman riding the bike was taken to Ninewells Hospital following the collision on Bridge Street close to the junction with Kinnessburn Road, reports The Courier.

The newspaper reports that both the cyclist and the pedestrian fell into the road, although it is unclear whether the collision itself took place on the pavement or the carriageway.

Sergeant Iain Hutchison of Police Scotland said: “Police are still trying to establish the full circumstances surrounding this tragic incident and we are eager to hear from members of the public who were in the area at the time of the collision.

“We are particularly keen to trace an elderly couple and a male pedestrian who were walking down Bridge Street at the time of the accident as they may hold vital information as to what happened.

“In addition, anyone with any further information relevant to this investigation is asked to contact police immediately.”

Anyone who has information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.
